Doosan Enerbility Lands 8 Million in Major Saudi Arabia Power Plant Contracts!

Doosan Enerbility Partners with Saudi Arabia for Major Power Plant Expansions

Published: May 27, 2025

In a significant step towards enhancing the energy landscape of Saudi Arabia, Doosan Enerbility has announced the signing of contracts valued at approximately 340 billion won (around 8 million) to supply crucial equipment for two major combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant expansion projects. This news has stirred excitement in the energy community, highlighting the company’s robust presence and commitment to sustainable energy solutions in the Middle East.

The projects, known as the Ghazlan 2 Expansion and Hajar Expansion, are located about 400 kilometers (or 248 miles) northeast of Riyadh, marking strategic advancements in the country’s efforts to boost its energy generation capabilities. Under the contract, Doosan Enerbility will supply steam turbines and generators designed to enhance the efficiency and output of both plants.

Each facility is set to feature an impressive generation capacity of 2,900 megawatts, with construction scheduled to unfold in phases through 2028. According to the agreement, Doosan will provide two turbines and two generators at each site, consisting of a 650-megawatt unit and a 540-megawatt unit for optimal energy delivery.

Sohn Seung-woo, head of the power service business group at Doosan Enerbility, emphasized the company’s long-standing relationship with Saudi Arabia. “We have continued to win orders based on the trust and technological prowess we have built up in the Middle East for over 40 years,” Sohn noted. The company is not just focused on completing the current projects but is also keen on expanding its footprint in the energy sector by winning follow-up contracts in the region.

Doosan Enerbility’s recent success is further highlighted by its remarkable achievement of securing 7.3 gigawatts of orders for ultra-large steam turbines over the past five years, accounting for 33.1 percent of the global total of 22.1 gigawatts. Of this, nine turbine units have been committed to Saudi Arabia since last year, demonstrating the nation’s growing role in the global energy landscape.

As countries across Africa and the Middle East focus on diversifying their energy sources and integrating more sustainable options, partnerships like the one between Doosan Enerbility and Saudi Arabia signal a promising direction for future energy projects.
