Innovation, entrepreneurship, and practical skills are transforming Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) in Ghana, as demonstrated by the CB-VET Ghana Project.
Over the past three years, more than 500 students from Kwadaso Agricultural College participated in an intensive entrepreneurship and business incubation program under the VET Ecosystems for Employability in Ghana (CB-VET) initiative. This effort has led to the development and exhibition of market-ready and eco-friendly agribusiness products.
Transforming Agricultural Education in Ghana
The CB-VET Ghana Project has focused on modernizing agricultural education by integrating practical skills and entrepreneurship. Lecturers received training in contemporary teaching methods, while students engaged in hands-on product development, branding, and pitching business ideas to potential investors. This approach links classroom learning with real market demands, fostering a new generation of skilled agricultural graduates.
Key Achievements of the CB-VET Ghana Project
Key achievements include the successful collaboration between vocational training institutions and industry stakeholders. The project emphasized the importance of climate-smart agriculture and digital farming technologies, equipping students with essential skills to adapt to changing agricultural landscapes. The initiative has also strengthened the connection between agricultural education and employment opportunities, addressing the skills gap in the sector.
Next Steps for Agricultural Technical Education
- Continued mentorship and support for entrepreneurial ventures initiated during the project.
- Further collaboration between training institutions and industry to enhance curriculum relevance.
- Expansion of the program to include more students and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
The CB-VET Ghana Project is reshaping agricultural education to meet modern challenges and market needs.
