 has lauded the country’s government for its innovative reforms in the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP). Recognized as a vital initiative in enhancing agricultural productivity, the FISP has now been successfully introduced across 73 districts, making strides toward empowering local farmers and boosting food security in the nation.</p>
<p>Eric Lautier, the IMF’s Resident Representative for Zambia, shared insights into the country’s commendable economic progress during a recent interview with ZNBC. He noted that Zambia has transitioned from a troubling primary balance sheet deficit of over 4% between 2017 and 2021 to a much healthier surplus of 0.6% of GDP last year, with aspirations of maintaining a 0.5% surplus this year. This remarkable turnaround showcases Zambia’s commitment to sound financial management and a sustainable economic future.</p>
<p>Lautier emphasized the significance of the reforms surrounding the FISP, which aims to eliminate inefficiencies such as “ghost farmers” who previously benefitted unfairly from resources intended for genuine agricultural producers.
