Fenella Returns: Experience the Magic of ‘A Tiger’s Tale’ at The Civic in Holmfirth!

A Spectacular Return to Holmfirth: M6 Theatre Company's 'A Tiger’s Tale' Coming This Halloween!

Mark your calendars, family entertainment enthusiasts! The acclaimed M6 Theatre Company is gearing up to bring joy and excitement to The Civic in Holmfirth with their latest production, A Tiger’s Tale. This heartwarming show will make its debut on October 31, 2024, just in time for a festive Halloween celebration that the whole family can enjoy.

Written by the illustrious Olivier award-winning playwright Mike Kenny, known for classics like The Railway Children, A Tiger’s Tale centers on the extraordinary true story of the Overend family—an acrobatic ensemble who crossed paths with an adorable tiger cub named Fenella. Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1930s South Africa, this enchanting tale chronicles Fenella’s incredible journey from circus life to her time in Holmfirth, where she lived from 1939 to 1950.

Imagine the scene—Fenella, the charming tiger cub, frolicking through the village alongside her circus family! This captivating show captures her antics and adventures, taking audiences on a whimsical trip from the circus trains of South Africa to the tranquil landscapes of West Yorkshire.

Adding to the show’s charm is original music composed by James Atherton, recognized for his work in Around the World in 80 Days and the UK Theatre Award-winning The Snow Queen. The performance promises an electrifying blend of circus thrills, delightful puppetry, and spirited live music that will captivate audiences of all ages.

Director Gilly Baskeyfield—who has a special connection to the Holmfirth community—discovered this incredible story years ago while reminiscing with an Overend family member. “I was amazed to learn about their life as acrobats and their unique bond with a tiger cub,” she shared. Baskeyfield hopes to highlight the extraordinary legacy of the Overend family, bringing their remarkable tale to young audiences who might not know about it.

The M6 Theatre Company, founded in 1977 and headquartered in Rochdale, boasts a reputation as one of Britain’s top touring theatre troupes, focusing on engaging theatre productions for younger generations.

Dawn Whiteley from The Civic expressed excitement about hosting A Tiger’s Tale, stating: “Local children learn about Fenella in school, so we couldn’t be happier to bring her heartwarming story back to Holmfirth!”

Tickets for this unforgettable family show are affordably priced at £8 for adults and £5 for children aged four and over. You can secure yours by calling The Civic’s box office at 01484 682643 or visiting their website at thecivicholmfirth.org.

Don’t miss your chance to witness this enchanting tale—perfect for families looking to create lasting memories this Halloween!
