Scholars Gather for International Conference on Teaching and Learning in South Africa

The 12th International Conference on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is set to redefine educational practices in South Africa.

Taking place from 7 to 9 October 2026 at the Central University of Technology, Free State, the conference features 196 presentations from 25 institutions. The theme, “Advancing Student Success through SoTL and Curriculum as Praxis,” emphasizes the importance of innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

Prof. Mogomme Masoga, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, opened the conference by highlighting that student success encompasses more than just graduation statistics. He stressed the significance of creating quality and transformative learning experiences.

Prof. Siphamandla Zondi, delivering the keynote address, urged institutions to address systemic factors affecting student outcomes. He emphasized that true student success involves transforming educational systems rather than merely facilitating student progression.
