Access to menstrual hygiene products is crucial for girls’ education and future opportunities.

Research indicates that girls aged 12 to 18 can miss up to 20% of the school year due to a lack of menstrual hygiene products. The Dis-Chem Foundation’s Million Comforts Campaign aims to tackle this issue by expanding its focus to include broader social, health, and developmental challenges affecting both girls and boys.

Dis-Chem Foundation Expands Million Comforts Campaign

The Million Comforts Campaign is taking significant steps to ensure that learners have access to necessary hygiene products. This year, the campaign recognizes that educational journeys are influenced by various factors beyond just access to menstrual hygiene products.

Jacqueline Kahlberg from the Dis-Chem Foundation emphasizes the need for schools to be safe and supportive environments. Many learners face challenges due to limited access to hygiene products, health services, and mentorship, which can hinder their confidence and academic participation.

Key Initiatives of the Million Comforts Campaign

The campaign will continue its nationwide sanitary pad collection drives every March and July. Donations will be accepted at all Dis-Chem and Dis-Chem Baby City stores. Beneficiary schools will receive six months’ worth of sanitary pads twice a year, ensuring consistent support for the students.

Strategic partners such as C J Distribution, Suzuki, Community To Career, and Unilever will enhance the campaign’s reach by providing logistics, mobility, and learner development support.

Future Steps for the Campaign
