 has made a strategic decision that will put many holiday travelers at ease: a temporary suspension of maintenance and construction projects along the bustling N2 Garden Route, effective Friday, December 13, 2024. This initiative is geared towards ensuring smooth traffic flow and enhancing road safety during one of the busiest travel times of the year.</p>
<p>Randall Cable, SANRAL’s Western Region Manager, highlighted the agency’s proactive approach to facilitating a hassle-free experience for holidaymakers. “The N2 Garden Route is an especially busy route for holiday travelers and freight operators. Plus, in collaboration with all road traffic authorities, we are dedicated to supporting and assisting every road user on their festive journeys,” he noted. </p>
<p>The latest updates show that the traffic circle at the Beacon Way Intersection in Plettenberg Bay is now fully operational, which will significantly enhance traffic movement in both directions. Excitingly, the ongoing improvements between Kraaibosch and Touw River are progressing well, ensuring easy transit through the serene Kaaimans Pass. Road users traveling from George to Victoria Bay will notice a lane configuration change, with a temporary speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour in effect.</p>
<p>Moreover, periodic maintenance efforts between Mossel Bay and Dekriet are nearing completion and are expected to be finalized early in 2025. Importantly, no stop-go closures will occur during the holiday period, allowing for uninterrupted travel—something every holiday traveler will surely appreciate. </p>
<p>However, motorists should be aware that traffic will be managed through stop/go operations between Swellendam and Riversdale. SANRAL promises to minimize waiting times, despite the higher traffic volume anticipated during this season. Currently, three stop/go traffic management points are active between Botrivier and Caledon; these will be dismantled by next Friday.</p>
<p>In a bit of news to prepare for, a 3-kilometer stretch of the R43 from the Kleinmond interchange on the N2 will remain closed throughout the festive season. Thankfully, traffic will be redirected through the Botrivier interchange, conveniently located a mere 2 kilometers away from the closure.</p>
<p>Cable emphasized the importance of shared responsibility for road safety: “The road is a shared space, and road safety is a shared responsibility. Working together, we can make the road safer for everyone, including pedestrians.” This forward-thinking outlook is designed to ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience for all during the holidays.</p>
