Tourism Authority and Experts Unite to Tackle Safety Challenges in Travel

Strengthening Tourism Safety in East New Britain: Collaborative Efforts Underway

In a proactive move to enhance tourist safety and experience, the Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) has engaged in important discussions with local tourism stakeholders in East New Britain (ENB). These meetings, held from November 14-18 in the picturesque towns of Rabaul and Kokopo, were primarily aimed at ensuring a secure environment for the influx of cruise ship tourists eager to explore the breathtaking beauty of this tropical paradise.

Governor Michael Marum played a key role in these discussions, expressing his enthusiasm for fostering strong partnerships between the provincial government and TPA. He emphasized the value of collaboration in bolstering community policing initiatives, which are critical to creating a safe atmosphere for both tourists and residents alike. “Tourism is not just about showcasing our country’s beauty; it’s about ensuring our visitors feel safe and welcomed,” Marum stated, highlighting a holistic view of tourism’s role in community well-being.

TPA’s Chief Executive Officer, Eric Mossman Uvovo, joined the conversation, laying out innovative strategies to mitigate potential risks for tourists. The discussions highlighted the importance of increasing security presence at key tourist hotspots and ports, as well as engaging local youth as volunteers to enhance the visitor experience. This approach aims to not only ensure safety but also foster a sense of community and hospitality that Papua New Guinea is known for.

A significant upcoming event that illustrates these efforts is the arrival of the Carnival Luminosa cruise ship on November 30, which will bring in approximately 2,260 eager passengers. TPA and ENB authorities are working diligently to develop an effective communication strategy to ensure that the experience for these tourists is not only memorable but also seamless and secure.

East New Britain is rich in cultural heritage and coastal beauty, and by prioritizing safety alongside promotion, local leaders aim to attract more tourists for years to come. This collaborative spirit between local authorities and tourism stakeholders is ensuring that East New Britain remains a top destination for travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation in a welcoming environment.

By focusing on safety and community engagement, Papua New Guinea is poised to solidify its standing as a must-visit location in the South Pacific. As we move into the summer season, visitors can look forward to exploring the stunning landscapes and vibrant cultures of this remarkable region, confidently knowing that their safety is a top priority.
