Lagos Business School (LBS) recently marked a significant milestone in the realm of education by celebrating the graduation of 212 dynamic leaders from its prestigious Executive Education programmes. The ceremony, a vibrant affair held in the heart of Lagos, showcased the dedication and commitment of both the graduates and LBS in nurturing talent and promoting excellence in leadership.
In her inspiring welcome address, Professor Olayinka David-West, the Dean of Lagos Business School, commended the graduates for their relentless pursuit of knowledge and personal growth. “Your journey at LBS began the moment you crossed our threshold. You embraced challenges with open minds, critically engaging with diverse problems while forging connections that will last a lifetime,” she emphasized. It’s a reminder that education often goes beyond textbooks, fostering a culture of critical thinking and collaboration.
Dr. Oluwatoyin Sanni, Founder and Executive Vice Chair of the Emerging Africa Group and a proud LBS alumna, delivered a thought-provoking keynote address. Dr. Sanni, who graduated from the Chief Executive Programme (CEP) in 2016, captivated the audience with her insights on ethical leadership and sustainable business practices. “As you embark on your professional journeys, always ask yourself: Am I building for the future or merely meeting today’s targets?” Her words resonated deeply, highlighting the importance of looking beyond immediate goals and considering the broader impact of their decisions.
The ceremony also held a moment of poignant reflection as LBS paid tribute to the late Peter Okoloh, a member of the Advanced Management Programme (AMP) cohort 42. With heartfelt words, Dr. Emmanuel Imafidon, the Programme’s Academic Director, celebrated Okoloh’s impressive contributions and legacy. In a moving moment, Mrs. Evelyn Okoloh accepted her husband’s certificate, a gesture that brought warmth and shared understanding among attendees—a testament to the strong community that LBS fosters.
As the presentations unfolded, Mr. Victor Banjo, the Director of Executive Education, announced that the graduates had met all the requirements for their various certificate programmes, which included: the Global Chief Executive Officer Africa Programme (GCEO-A); Advanced Management Programme (AMP); Senior Manager Programme (SMP); Owner-Manager Programme (OMP); Agribusiness Management Programme (AgMP); Management Acceleration Programme (MAP); and Human Resources Academy (HRA).
In a fitting conclusion to the ceremony, Dr. Owen Omogiafo, president of the Lagos Business School Alumni Association, warmly welcomed the new graduates into the LBSAA fold, encouraging them to remain engaged and supportive members of the alumni community.
The graduation ceremony was not merely a celebration of academic achievement but also a powerful reminder of the responsibility that comes with leadership. As these graduates step into their roles across various sectors, their commitment to ethical practices, innovative thinking, and community engagement will undoubtedly shape the future of business in Africa and beyond.
