Ghana has recovered more than GH¢18 billion through the implementation of recommendations made in audit reports from 2022 to date, according to Auditor-General Dr Pamela Graham. This recovery highlights the critical role of independent audits in safeguarding public funds.
Dr Graham noted that her office’s interventions had also prevented GH¢11.7 billion in wrongful payments in 2025 alone. She emphasized the need for stronger policies to ensure that audit recommendations are acted upon, as only 41.8 percent of such recommendations have been implemented in Ghana.
Ghana’s Audit Recovery Efforts
At the Sixth Annual General Meeting and Conference of the African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC) in Accra, Dr Graham presented these figures to underscore the importance of effective auditing. The conference gathered parliamentarians, auditors, and governance experts from across Africa to discuss enhancing public financial accountability.
Dr Graham expressed concern over the limited implementation of audit recommendations in several African countries. She pointed out that while Ghana has implemented 41.8 percent of recommendations, other countries like Rwanda have achieved 65 percent, South Africa 34 percent, and Morocco only 18 percent.
