Mozambican Government Seeks Dual Nationality Recognition for Citizens in Tanzania

The Mozambican Government is negotiating with Tanzanian authorities to secure dual nationality for its citizens living in Tanzania. This initiative aims to strengthen legal and family ties for Mozambicans abroad.

Maria de Fátima Manso, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, discussed the ongoing talks during a meeting with the Mozambican community in Tanzania. She emphasized that the process hinges on an agreement with local authorities and requires the Tanzanian Government’s approval. Manso reassured the community of Mozambique’s commitment to finding a solution that allows citizens to maintain connections with their homeland.

Negotiations for Dual Nationality in Tanzania

The discussions between Mozambique and Tanzania focus on recognizing dual nationality for Mozambicans residing in Tanzania. Manso highlighted the need for an understanding with Tanzanian officials to facilitate this process. The Secretary of State encouraged the community to organize and coordinate with their leaders and the Mozambican High Commission to identify citizens interested in dual nationality.

She mentioned that a survey would be conducted to assess the needs of Mozambicans in Tanzania. This effort aims to streamline the process and ensure that the necessary documentation is in place for those seeking dual nationality.

Importance of Family and Community Ties

Manso underscored the significance of preserving family and community connections with Mozambique. She believes that these ties should be passed down to future generations. The Secretary of State’s remarks reflect a commitment to maintaining cultural identity among Mozambicans abroad.

By advocating for community organization and association, Manso aims to strengthen the bonds between Mozambicans in Tanzania and their homeland. This initiative is seen as vital for fostering a sense of belonging and continuity for future generations.

Next Steps for the Mozambican Community

  • Conduct a survey to identify citizens interested in dual nationality.
  • Coordinate with community leaders and the Mozambican High Commission.
  • Facilitate the collection of necessary documents for the dual nationality process.

The Mozambican Government is actively working to secure dual nationality for its citizens in Tanzania.
