Zimbabwe and Mozambique are strengthening their parliamentary ties through a new agreement.
Following a meeting between National Assembly Speaker Jacob Mudenda and Mozambican Speaker Margarida Adamugy Talapa, both leaders committed to enhancing cooperation. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering closer legislative ties and promoting national development.
Zimbabwe and Mozambique Sign Cooperation Agreement
During their meeting in Harare, Mudenda and Talapa discussed the importance of inter-parliamentary collaboration. The MoU will facilitate legislative exchanges and joint initiatives at both regional and international levels. Mudenda emphasized the role of the Pan-African Parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Union in this cooperation.
Speaker Talapa highlighted the significance of their visit, which included tours of key historical sites in Zimbabwe. She expressed the importance of telling Africa’s own history through institutions like the Museum of African Liberation.
Strengthening Ties Through Future Visits
Both speakers indicated that this meeting is just the beginning of a deeper relationship. Mudenda accepted an invitation to visit Mozambique, which will further solidify their partnership. The two leaders aim to enhance cooperation through their respective Foreign Affairs committees.
They also plan to continue discussions on economic diplomacy, focusing on improving livelihoods in both countries. The historical ties between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, rooted in their liberation struggles, will serve as a foundation for future collaboration.
