Egypt is set to enhance its water management through a new partnership with China.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation concluded a visit from a Chinese delegation, which took place from 2 to 4 September 2026. Minister Hani Swailem emphasized the importance of translating this cooperation into actionable projects focusing on water reuse, smart irrigation, and digital transformation.

The recent visit by China’s Ministry of Water Resources delegation marks a significant step in the strategic partnership between Egypt and China. Led by Zhang Hongxing, the delegation included six senior officials and experts who engaged in discussions about Egypt’s water challenges and opportunities.
During the visit, a detailed report was presented to Minister Swailem, outlining priority areas for collaboration. These include the implementation of advanced technologies in water management and the establishment of a joint action plan aimed at enhancing capacity and technology transfer.
