Spar Proteas Players Achieve Success in UK and Australian Netball Leagues

The Spar Proteas have marked a significant season in international netball, showcasing their talent in leagues abroad.

A total of 10 Spar Proteas participated in the Netball Super League and the Suncorp Super Netball during the 2026 season. Three players reached the grand finals in their respective leagues, highlighting the growth and achievements of South African netballers on the global stage.

Spar Proteas Shine in International Leagues

This season, the Spar Proteas demonstrated their prowess in professional netball, with players competing in both the UK and Australia. Kamogelo Maseko, Jamie Golob, and Sanmarie Visser made notable debuts, while Elmere van der Berg transitioned from the UK to Australia, continuing to elevate her game.

Chawane, the captain, expressed optimism after a challenging couple of seasons, emphasizing the team’s improved mentality and hunger for success. Her performance included competing in 14 matches, culminating in a strong showing in the Major Semifinal and Grand Final.

Key Performances and Achievements

Maseko scored a total of 157 goals throughout the season, while Smith, despite an injury, celebrated her achievements with two awards, including Most Improved Player. Retief also made strides, contributing to her team’s playoff spot.

Golob faced initial challenges adjusting to the overseas competition but ultimately found the experience rewarding, citing the high level of professionalism in the leagues. Van der Berg’s debut was particularly impressive, scoring over 700 goals and setting a club record for most points in a game.
