Africazine:

Saipem has achieved a significant milestone in Libya’s Bouri Gas Utilization Project with the successful lifting of a crucial gas recovery module.

The operation utilized the Saipem 7000, one of the world’s largest crane vessels. The module, weighing over 5,200 tons and measuring 45 by 31 meters, was built over two years and is designed to enhance gas recovery and reduce CO2 emissions.

Successful Lifting Operations for Bouri Project

The lifting of the gas recovery module marks a pivotal moment in the execution phase of the Bouri Gas Utilization Project. This project, developed by Mellitah Oil & Gas, aims to recover associated gas currently flared, channeling it to the Mellitah treatment complex for utilization or export.

The module integrates advanced gas treatment systems and was installed on the existing offshore platform, contributing to the project’s infrastructure. The operation showcases Saipem’s expertise in managing complex engineering tasks while adhering to high safety and reliability standards.

Libya: Key figures on gas recovery module

  • 5,200 tons
  • 45 meters by 31 meters
  • Approximately 45 meters in height
  • 1.5 Mt eq/year reduction in CO2 emissions
  • Approximately 2 million cubic meters per day increase in net gas production
  • 28 kilometers of subsea pipelines

Next Steps for the Bouri Gas Utilization Project

  • Integration of the module onto the existing DP4 platform
  • Hook-up and commissioning of the system
