Africazine:

Air Algérie is set to enhance its fleet with a significant order of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

The Algerian flag carrier has ordered 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets, with deliveries starting in July 2026. This move is part of Air Algérie’s strategy to renew its fleet, which currently relies on older Boeing 737NGs and a few Airbus A320-family aircraft.

Air Algérie Orders New Boeing Aircraft

Air Algérie’s order includes five jets scheduled for delivery in 2026 and another five in 2027. This acquisition marks a shift towards a newer generation of narrowbody aircraft, aimed at replacing aging models in its short- and medium-haul fleet.

The airline’s current narrowbody fleet consists of Boeing 737-800s, -700s, and -600s, many of which have been in service for over a decade. The introduction of the MAX 8 is seen as a necessary upgrade for the carrier.

Details on Air Algérie’s Fleet Renewal

In addition to the 737 MAX 8 order, Air Algérie has previously committed to acquiring eight 737 MAX 9s, which are expected to arrive later. The airline is also modernizing its long-haul fleet with the delivery of Airbus A330-900s, intended to replace older widebody aircraft and support international expansion.

While the press release announcing the new order did not specify the value or financing details, it indicates a strategic move to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.

Upcoming Deliveries and Future Plans

  • First five Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets to arrive in July 2026.
  • Second batch of five jets expected in 2027.
  • Ongoing deliveries of Airbus A330-900s for long-haul operations.

Air Algérie is taking significant steps to modernize its fleet for better service and efficiency.
