AVBOB Unveils New Container Library at Katoloso Primary School: A Beacon of Hope for Wesselsbron

In an exciting development for education in South Africa, AVBOB launched its latest container library at Katoloso Primary School in Wesselsbron on October 21st. This initiative not only strengthens the ongoing commitment to literacy and education but also addresses the pressing need for learning resources in this vibrant community.

Wesselsbron, nestled in the Free State province, is a town rich in potential but facing challenges that often hinder educational advancement. Local schools, including Katoloso Primary, have long struggled with limited learning resources, which can curtail students’ educational journeys and future prospects. Fortunately, AVBOB’s introduction of this new container library—stocked with over 3,000 books—aims to dismantle those barriers.

This library is more than just a structure; it’s a nurturing environment designed for exploration, research, and personal growth. Mr. Ramotladi Matsepe, the Principal of Katoloso Primary School, expressed heartfelt appreciation for this significant contribution, declaring, “This library represents a doorway to new worlds and endless possibilities for our learners.” His sentiments reflect the hopes of many community members eager to see educational upliftment transform the local landscape.

The AVBOB Container Library Project, launched in 2013, is grounded in the belief that access to reading materials plays a crucial role in overcoming educational obstacles, particularly in rural areas. To date, this initiative has invested an impressive R36 million into establishing 73 libraries across South Africa, positively impacting over 71,000 learners and more than 2,000 educators.

AVBOB is not stopping there. The organization is committed to ensuring that its existing libraries remain up-to-date and equipped to meet the evolving needs of their communities. Their ongoing refurbishment program has already invested R8.3 million into enhancing older libraries, underscoring the organization’s vision for sustained educational support.

Additionally, AVBOB’s collaboration with Oxford University Press Southern Africa through the Road To Literacy campaign amplifies their impact by donating mobile trolley libraries to schools and educational non-profits. With a staggering R57 million investment in 2025 alone, AVBOB has distributed 1,000 trolley libraries filled with over 500,000 books aligned with the national curriculum.

Kebo Mosweusweu, AVBOB’s General Manager for Shared Value & Sustainability, encapsulated their mission beautifully, stating, “Every library we open is a reminder that education is the most powerful gift we can give.” These initiatives are part of a larger narrative that aims to foster a culture of learning and innovation across South Africa.

As Wesselsbron continues to thrive, the new library at Katoloso Primary serves as a symbol of hope and opportunity. The potential for change is palpable, and with each new library established, the community edges closer to a brighter, more educated future.
