Africazine:

Tesla has officially entered the Moroccan market, marking its first commercial presence in Africa.

The launch took place on February 6, 2026, at AnfaPlace Mall in Casablanca, introducing the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y to African consumers. This strategic move is part of Tesla’s global expansion, leveraging Morocco’s favorable geographic and regulatory environment.

Tesla’s Strategic Move into Morocco

Morocco’s geographic location, just 14 kilometers from Spain, makes it a natural extension of Tesla’s European network. The country has already seen European Tesla drivers and has established several Supercharger stations prior to the official sales launch. This infrastructure supports the growing demand for electric vehicles.

Morocco’s ambitious energy strategy focuses on renewable energy development and national decarbonization goals, creating a conducive environment for electric vehicle expansion. The automotive market is evolving, with 235,372 new cars sold in 2025, a 33% increase from the previous year, marking a historic record.

Morocco: Key figures on electric vehicle sales

  • 235,372 cars sold in Morocco in 2025
  • 33% increase in car sales year-on-year
  • 176.5% increase in electric vehicle sales in the first half of 2025
  • Approximately 11,000 electric vehicles in the national fleet
  • Nearly 1,000 public charging stations installed

Challenges in Other African Markets

Unlike Morocco, Tesla has not entered the South African market, which is the largest automotive market on the continent with nearly 600,000 new vehicles sold in 2025. High import duties and a lack of tax incentives for electric vehicles have hindered Tesla’s expansion in South Africa, prompting the company to focus on Morocco instead.

With six Supercharger sites already operational in Morocco since 2021, Tesla is not starting from scratch. The new store in Casablanca aims to provide vehicle demonstrations, after-sales service, and access to Tesla’s energy ecosystem.

Next Steps for Tesla in Morocco

  • Continue expanding the network of Supercharger stations
  • Enhance customer engagement through demonstrations and services
  • Monitor the growth of electric vehicle adoption in Morocco

Tesla’s entry into Morocco signifies a pivotal moment for electric vehicle adoption in Africa.
