Karpowership Uplifts Orphans in Sierra Leone with New Facility Renovation

In a heartwarming demonstration of corporate social responsibility, Karpowership has transformed the Variety Children and Family Services Home in Kingtom, Freetown, with a significant renovation project. The official handover ceremony took place on October 10, 2025, marking a pivotal moment for both the organization and the local community. This endeavor showcases Karpowership’s dedication to enhancing living conditions for vulnerable children while solidifying its role as a proactive player in Sierra Leone’s development.

During the ceremony, Emre Durmusoglu, Karpowership’s Commercial Operations Director, shared that the company invested an impressive ,000 into the project. This investment facilitated a complete overhaul of the building, focusing on modernizing the structure as well as upgrading furniture and utilities to create a nurturing environment for the children. Every aspect of the orphanage has been reimagined to provide a better quality of life.

Karpowership’s commitment extends beyond just the renovation. The company plans to continue supporting the facility by covering essential monthly costs through local partners, emphasizing its long-term investment in the socio-economic development of Sierra Leone. Since establishing operations in the country in 2018, Karpowership has not only supplied dependable and affordable electricity but has also actively participated in humanitarian projects, reinforcing the belief that progress is best achieved through community empowerment.

“This initiative isn’t merely about providing electricity; it’s about fueling hope and possibilities for the future,” asserted Nour Hashim, a representative from Karpowership. The organization underscores that investing in children’s welfare is a foundational step toward empowering future generations.

Karpowership’s Project Manager, Yankay Sawaneh, highlighted that the renovation aligns with the company’s “One World” vision—a philosophy aimed at delivering meaningful change where it operates. He confidently declared that these enhancements will breathe new life into the home, making it a better space for its young residents.

Furthermore, Karpowership’s support includes paying for school fees, supplying food and sanitary materials, and ensuring ongoing care for the children. During previous community outreach efforts, such as donations during the COVID-19 pandemic and annual Ramadan giveaways, Karpowership has demonstrated a persistent commitment to social impact.

Francis Lahai, Director of Variety Children and Family Services, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Karpowership’s timely intervention, acknowledging the financial challenges involved in managing the orphanage, which cares for over 675 children and collaborates with more than 300 foster parents across Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia. He also shared inspiring success stories, including an Ebola orphan now excelling in university studies, showcasing the positive impact of foundational support for children.

Ambassador Burak Rende of Turkey commended Karpowership for its commitment to social development, affirming the importance of investing in future leaders. He expressed the Turkish Embassy’s dedication to supporting further initiatives that positively influence the lives of Sierra Leoneans.

The renovation of the Variety Children and Family Services Home highlights Karpowership’s expanding portfolio of community support initiatives across Africa. It reinforces the notion that the path to sustainable development runs parallel to fostering kindness and compassion within society. This initiative not only strengthens the home but also ignites hope for a brighter future for many children in Sierra Leone.
