Empowering Young Voices: A Writing Challenge for the Next Generation of Cameroonian Talent!

Empowering Young Voices: Cameroon Launches Its First National Writing Competition

In an inspiring move that is sure to ignite the imaginations of youth across the nation, the ASAF Cameroun Foundation has announced Cameroon’s inaugural national writing competition for 2025. Spearheaded by philanthropist and entrepreneur Eran Moas, alongside celebrated author and honorary ambassador Djaïli Amadou Amal—who proudly holds the 2020 Goncourt des Lycéens Prize—this initiative opens doors for creativity and self-expression among children and teenagers aged 8 to 16.

Under the enlightening theme of “Telling Tomorrow,” young participants are encouraged to unleash their creative potential through stories, poems, and personal narratives. The writing workshops at the Djaili Amal Amadou libraries, located in Douala and Maroua, will provide the necessary mentorship and support to help these young writers polish their skills and gain the confidence to express their unique viewpoints.

A Creative Solution to Educational Challenges

While education is pivotal for any nation’s development, economic factors often force children in many regions of Cameroon to pause their schooling. High costs of educational materials and family obligations pose significant barriers. Fortunately, this competition not only provides essential material support but also motivates children to stay focused on their studies. By participating in the contest, youths can experience the excitement of having their talents recognized and celebrated in an official ceremony.

“The initiative is about much more than just writing; it’s about giving children a reason to stay engaged in their education,” remarks Eran Moas. This dynamic approach underlines the power of creative expression as a tool for combating educational dropout rates, showing how culture and education can come together for the benefit of the youth.

Skills Development Through Storytelling

In addition to providing a platform for creativity, the competition aims to equip young Cameroonians with essential skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Engaging in creative writing not only enhances reading and language abilities but also fosters critical thinking and imagination. These skills empower children to articulate their dreams and confront the challenges they face while envisioning a brighter future.

The library workshops create a nurturing and dynamic environment where kids can share their work, receive tailored feedback, and connect with fellow budding writers. This supportive atmosphere not only enhances self-expression but also builds self-confidence—qualities that are invaluable for both academic success and personal growth.

“By providing each child a space to express themselves, we enable them to see their unique contributions to the world,” adds Moas.

This innovative writing competition is more than just an event; it is a powerful educational tool that fosters self-discovery and encourages a generation of young Cameroonians to shape their destinies with confidence.

As this initiative unfolds, it’s clear that the ASAF Cameroun Foundation is not just igniting creativity, but also inspiring resilience and ambition in the youth of Cameroon. Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative journey!
