Empowering Unemployed Youth: A Dynamic Partnership to Enhance Skills and Create Opportunities

The ||Kharas Regional Council has taken a significant step towards empowering the youth of Namibia by partnering with Hyphen in a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on upskilling unemployed young people in the region. This pivotal agreement was officially signed at Keetmanshoop, marking an enthusiastic commitment to enhancing the future of youth employment within the ||Kharas Region.

The primary goal of this innovative upskilling project is to provide specialized training and capacity-building initiatives tailored toward addressing the specific skills gaps prevalent in the region. As the job market evolves, it’s crucial that young individuals possess the necessary skills to thrive. This initiative serves as a beacon of hope, aiming to elevate the employability of unemployed youth and to foster a workforce that meets the demands of a changing economy, particularly in burgeoning sectors like green hydrogen.

Toni Beukes, the Head of Environment and Social Governance at Hyphen, emphasized the importance of investing in people and institutions alike. Beukes stated, “By creating a solid foundation for skills development, we can not only support the Hyphen project but also help position the ||Kharas Region as a leader in Namibia’s green hydrogen economy.” This vision aligns with broader national efforts to leverage renewable energy resources and create sustainable jobs.

The signing ceremony was a momentous occasion, presided over by ||Kharas Governor Aletha Frederick and ||Kharas Regional Council Chairperson Joseph Isaacks, both of whom expressed optimism about the positive impact this collaboration will have on the community. Their support signals a united front in tackling youth unemployment and fostering an environment conducive to personal and professional growth.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t Hyphen’s first foray into such initiatives. Recently, the company also signed a similar MoU with the Hardap Regional Council, demonstrating its commitment to driving positive change across multiple regions in Namibia.

As the ||Kharas Region embarks on this exciting journey toward economic development and sustainability, the collaboration with Hyphen accentuates a growing trend of public-private partnerships aimed at enhancing education and job readiness for the youth—a promising outlook for Namibia’s labor market.
