Mozambique's Rovuma LNG Project Gets Major Boost from Technip Energies and JGC Corp.
In an exciting development for Mozambique’s energy sector, French engineering giant Technip Energies and Japanese engineering contractor JGC Corp. have jointly secured a significant Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract from ExxonMobil for the much-anticipated Rovuma LNG project. This pivotal announcement came through on Wednesday, signaling a substantial step forward for the project based in Palma on the stunning Afungi peninsula in Northeast Mozambique.
The Rovuma LNG project represents not just a leap towards energy independence for Mozambique but also promises to enhance the nation’s position in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. This ambitious venture is the brainchild of Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), a consortium that includes three industry heavyweights: ExxonMobil, Eni, and China’s CNPC. Together, they aim to create an LNG plant that can produce an impressive 18 million tons of LNG per annum, facilitated by 12 advanced, fully modularized LNG trains that will each yield 1.5 million tons annually.
What sets this project apart from traditional LNG facilities is its commitment to sustainability. The plant will utilize electric-driven LNG trains, steering clear of conventional gas turbines, which considerably reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
