#BackOnTrack: Exciting Developments in Grade 4 and 7 Teacher Training!
On a vibrant Saturday, August 23, 2025, I had the pleasure of visiting Rosmead Central Primary School in Claremont, where the #BackOnTrack programme is making waves! This initiative not only aims to enhance the learning experience for students in Grades 4 and 7 but is also providing critical support to teachers through robust training programs.
Engaging with the passionate educators involved in the training was a true highlight of my visit. Their commitment to improving educational outcomes through feedback and continuous learning is noteworthy. With over 1,355 teachers currently registered in the #BackOnTrack program, it’s clear that the dedication to professional development is making strides. To ensure they are well-prepared for future lessons, these teachers step out of the classroom every ten days to undergo intensive training focused on the upcoming teaching content.
But there’s even better news! The #BackOnTrack training has recently received accreditation from the South African Council of Educators (SACE), a significant validation of the program’s quality. This accreditation also allows participating teachers to earn 40 SACE points, contributing to their goal of accumulating 150 Continuing Professional Development points over three years. This aspect highlights the program’s dual benefit: not only does it support learners, but it also empowers teachers in their professional journeys.
The excitement did not end there, as we also kicked off #BackOnTrack extra classes for Grade 4 and 7 students this weekend. Witnessing the enthusiasm from so many eager young learners diligently revising core concepts with their dedicated tutors was truly uplifting. This year, we’re targeting 15,450 students from 223 primary schools to benefit from these extra lessons, and the early results are promising. Research from Stellenbosch University indicates that participants have recovered the equivalent of 205 school days of learning — that’s a full year of school work!
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the students, teachers, tutors, and trainers who are wholeheartedly embracing this opportunity for additional support. Your investment in education is paving the way for enhanced learning outcomes in the Western Cape!
