UAE’s Lifeline Water Supply Project Set to Transform Gaza’s Water Access

Gaza, August 8, 2023 — In an inspiring step towards alleviating humanitarian challenges, a team from Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 has conducted a thorough field inspection of the Lifeline Water Supply Project, a vital initiative in partnership with the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) in Gaza. This project aims to establish sustainable water pipelines that will significantly enhance water access for the southern areas of the Gaza Strip, a part of the extensive humanitarian efforts led by the UAE to support the region's people.

This ambitious water supply initiative is crucial for meeting the needs of families affected by the ongoing humanitarian circumstances in Gaza. As conflict and displacement persist, access to clean and safe water becomes increasingly essential for the well-being of the local population. The project, involving the installation of a 7-kilometer water pipeline, begins at the UAE desalination stations on the Egyptian side of Rafah and extends to Al Mawasi, one of the most densely populated areas grappling with the repercussions of water scarcity.

Approximately 600,000 individuals are expected to benefit from this lifeline, including a significant number of children, women, and elderly residents. The aim is to provide a reliable supply of clean water, which will not only help improve health outcomes but also reduce the daily burdens faced by the community, especially during the scorching summer months when water shortages become more pronounced.

Implemented in close coordination with the CMWU and Egyptian authorities, the project is monitored diligently by Emirati teams who are ensuring that engineering standards are met while aligning with the local context. Technical teams report that work is progressing rapidly and is on schedule for timely completion, with the goal of launching the water supply as soon as possible.

This initiative is part of a larger campaign launched by the UAE in support of Gaza. Once operational, it is expected to ease the daily struggles of thousands of families and serve as a beacon of hope and collaboration in addressing humanitarian crises. The Lifeline Water Supply Project exemplifies the UAE’s commitment to delivering sustainable and impactful humanitarian support, particularly in the face of unprecedented challenges.

As the world watches closely, this project stands as a model for regional and international cooperation, highlighting the potential for collective efforts to address pressing humanitarian needs.
