“Navigate Weymouth Like a Pro: Essential Road Closures for the Half Marathon Adventure!”

Get Ready, Weymouth! Road Closures for the Upcoming Half Marathon

This Sunday, March 16, the picturesque town of Weymouth will be buzzing with excitement as it hosts the highly anticipated Weymouth Half Marathon. Runners from all over will lace up their shoes to tackle the scenic 13.1-mile course, making it a significant day for both participants and spectators alike. However, with such a large event comes the need for temporary road closures to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

Here’s what you need to know about the road closures in effect this Sunday:

Preston Road will be shut down between Melcombe Avenue and Overcombe Corner mini roundabout from 7 AM to 10 AM, providing an uninterrupted path for the athletes as they make their way through the course.

On the beautiful Esplanade, a portion will be closed southbound only between King Street (Jubilee Clock) and the Pavilion car park from 7 AM to 1 PM. Don’t worry; there will be a manned running crossing point nearby at Bond Street, so spectators and runners can cross safely.

In addition to these, another section of the Esplanade will be closed between Alexandra Gardens and Pavilion car park during the same hours, and access to Custom House Quay will still be accessible via Pilgrims Way.

For those who plan to travel near Old Castle Road, be mindful of the northbound closure between Sudan Road and Belle Vue Road, which will be in effect from 8 AM until 11:30 AM.

Further closures include Maiden Street and New Street, which will both be closed from St. Alban Street from 7 AM to 12 PM, while St Thomas Street will see closures between Trinity Road and St Edmund Street during the same timeframe.

Temporary traffic signals will be active on St Edmund Street, with a manned running crossing point across St. Mary Street open until 12 PM. Look out for another manned crossing on Commercial Road at Lower St. Alban Street between 7:15 AM and 12 PM.

For residents and visitors, give yourself plenty of time to navigate around these closures or plan an alternative route. This event is not just about the race; it’s a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together and cheer on the runners as they journey through the stunning landscapes of Weymouth.

Make sure to bring your friends and family to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the event, with local businesses likely to have their doors open and ready to offer refreshments and support!

Remember, the Weymouth Half Marathon not only promotes fitness but also exemplifies the essence of community spirit. So, whether you’re a runner, a spectator, or just passing by, embrace the excitement and cheer on the participants!
