Equity Group Reports Significant Profit Increase Amid Rising Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Equity Group Holdings PLC reported profit after tax of KSh75.5bn, a 55 per cent increase, while its greenhouse gas emissions grew 19 per cent to 39,605 tonnes CO2e in 2025. The rise in emissions was attributed to significant business expansion and improved data capture.

The emissions increased from 33,200 tonnes in the previous year, with contributions from all three scopes: direct fuel use, purchased electricity, and value-chain activities. Two subsidiaries were responsible for 98 per cent of the additional emissions, with Equity Bank (Kenya) Limited accounting for 65 per cent of the total. The group is working towards establishing a solid foundational baseline for operational emissions and aims to advance its net-zero commitments by 2030.
