South African motorists are set for a welcome reprieve as fuel prices are poised to drop in November 2026.
This decrease marks the first reduction since July 2026, with significant cuts in the fuel levy. The price of petrol could drop by 33 cents per litre for 93 ULP/LRP and 49 cents for 95 ULP/LRP, while diesel prices may fall by R1.58 and R1.68 per litre for different grades.
Fuel Prices Set to Decrease in November 2026
In a significant shift, South Africa will witness a reduction in fuel prices for the first time in over a year. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced that the fuel levy will be cut, removing R3 from diesel and R1.50 from petrol until December 1, 2026. After this date, the levy will further decrease to R1.50 for petrol and R1 for diesel.
Projected inland prices for November include R29.55 per litre for petrol 93 ULP/LRP and R30.37 per litre for diesel 500ppm. Coastal prices are slightly lower, with petrol 95 ULP/LRP at R28.89 per litre and diesel 500ppm at R29.50 per litre.
Context of the Fuel Price Changes
The recent adjustments come after Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement on October 21, which outlined an estimated R10 billion in support from the fuel levy cuts. This financial relief aims to alleviate the burden on consumers facing rising fuel costs.
As the oil price stands at 4 per barrel, these changes reflect the government’s response to fluctuating global oil prices and the need for economic relief for South African citizens.
