The Suez Canal Authority is strengthening ties with Thailand to enhance maritime cooperation.
During a recent meeting in Ismailia, Vice Admiral Osama Rabie welcomed a high-level Thai delegation led by Lertsak Patanachaikul. Discussions focused on cooperation areas and the Suez Canal’s vital role in global supply chains.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties with Thailand
The meeting highlighted the importance of the Suez Canal as a key link between East and West. Rabie emphasized the canal’s role in supporting global supply chains amid regional challenges. He also outlined major development projects in the Canal Zone, which are backed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Efforts to diversify the canal’s national income sources were also discussed. The SCA has localized the production of various marine units to cater to the needs of the canal and Egyptian ports, creating opportunities for exports.
New Maritime Services Introduced
Rabie detailed the introduction of new maritime services, including ship maintenance and repair, marine rescue, and pollution control. These services aim to enhance the operational capabilities of the canal and improve its environmental management.
Patanachaikul expressed interest in expanding economic cooperation, particularly in maritime and cultural tourism. He praised the SCA’s expertise in managing maritime crises and its role in maintaining global supply chains.
