Egypt is advancing its ambitious “Decent Life” initiative aimed at transforming rural villages.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced the completion of significant targets in the first phase of this initiative, which has impacted 1,477 villages. As of now, work has been finalized in 926 villages, with the second phase set to cover 20 governorates and serve 21.5 million people.
Completion of First Phase in Rural Development
The first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative has seen substantial progress, with 926 villages having all targeted projects completed. This phase aimed to enhance living standards and provide stable conditions for beneficiaries. Between August 24 and September 7, 2026, work was completed in 19 additional villages.
Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized the importance of this initiative in improving the quality of life across rural Egypt. The government is now preparing to implement lessons learned from the first phase as they move forward.
Plans for the Second and Third Phases
The upcoming phases will focus on expanding the initiative’s reach to 1,667 villages, impacting 21.5 million people. The government is prioritizing locally manufactured products and centralizing procurement to standardize prices. This approach aims to deepen local manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports.
Madbouly has ordered the swift provision of land necessary for these phases, ensuring that all sanitation projects utilize locally manufactured pumps. This strategy is designed to enhance local industry while meeting the needs of rural communities.
