The FNB U18 Girls Week tournament showcased thrilling matches as teams battled for supremacy.
On Wednesday, Western Province, Border, and Eastern Province secured crucial victories in the second round at Grey High School in Gqeberha. Notably, Western Province edged the Golden Lions 12-10 in a nail-biting finish.
Western Province Triumphs in Close Match
Western Province faced a fierce challenge from the Golden Lions, with the match hanging in the balance until the final moments. The Lions scored a try that brought them within two points, but their conversion attempt went wide, allowing WP to secure the win.
Earlier in the day, the Pumas delivered a commanding performance against KwaZulu-Natal, winning 28-0. Griquas also had a strong showing, overpowering the Leopards with a score of 30-5.
Dominant Displays from Other Teams
Border showcased their strength with a decisive 36-0 victory over the Blue Bulls, scoring six tries. Flyhalf Buncwane Komani was instrumental, contributing 11 points to the team’s success.
Eastern Province also shone brightly, routing Boland 41-0, with standout performances from fullback Chariva Visagie and outside centre Anothando Mbada, each scoring two tries. The Valke edged Free State 19-10, while SWD narrowly defeated Eastern Province XV 15-10.
