Addis Ababa Launches Major Riverside Development and Kebena Dam Project

Addis Ababa is taking significant strides towards becoming a world-class city with its latest infrastructure project.

The newly inaugurated Entoto–Kebena River and Riverside Development and Kebena Dam Project spans 87.6 hectares and stretches 10.5 kilometers. It includes various public amenities and environmental restoration efforts, reflecting the city administration’s commitment to enhancing livability and attractiveness for tourism and investment.

Major Features of the Riverside Development Project

The Entoto–Kebena project encompasses a major dam, 16 smaller dams, and three check dams. It also boasts 20.2 kilometers of river retaining walls and 1.2 kilometers of walking trails, enhancing both accessibility and recreational opportunities for residents.

Additionally, the project introduces three artificial waterfalls and a water source, alongside 36,928 square meters of landscaped areas designed for soil and environmental conservation. Nearly 60 hectares of green space have been developed, with over 50,000 trees planted to bolster ecological sustainability.

Moreover, the development includes community libraries and commercial spaces aimed at supporting local businesses and leisure activities, making it a vibrant hub for residents and visitors alike.
