The Belinga-Kobé-Kobé Corridor is set to transform trade in Central Africa.

Construction of the Kobé-Kobé deep water port began last week, marking a significant milestone in connecting the Belinga iron ore deposit to the Atlantic coast. This logistics network will stretch over 500km and is expected to reshape regional trade dynamics.

Gabon’s Strategic Infrastructure Development

The Kobé-Kobé Port will handle 110 million tonnes of cargo annually, featuring terminals for iron ore, general cargo, and containers. This development is crucial for landlocked countries like Chad and the Central African Republic, which currently rely on ports in Cameroon and the Republic of the Congo for their trade.

By enhancing access to reliable infrastructure, the Belinga-Kobé-Kobé Corridor aims to remove barriers to economic development in these regions. The project is a collaboration between Ivindo Iron SA, an Australian company, and the African Transformation and Industrialization Fund, with Gabon’s government holding a 10% stake.

The Belinga project is anticipated to create a third major trade corridor, significantly reducing logistics costs and bottlenecks. This improvement will make Central Africa more appealing to investors, aligning with Gabon’s goal to boost mining’s contribution to GDP from 6% to 15% by 2040.
