Cote d’Ivoire is on the brink of a technological leap with the upcoming launch of its 5G network.
The Ivorian Minister of Digital Transition and Technological Innovation, Djibril Ouattara, announced that the 5G network could be operational as early as July. Discussions with telecom operators are nearing completion, with all major operators ready to deploy the technology.
Cote d’Ivoire’s Ambitious 5G Rollout Plans
The rollout of 5G in Cote d’Ivoire is set to cover all cities with populations exceeding 25,000. This initiative follows months of preparation, with the government working closely with telecom operators since January to ensure a smooth launch.
Currently, Cote d’Ivoire boasts over 60 million active mobile phone subscriptions and around 38 million active mobile internet subscriptions. The minister highlighted that internet coverage already reaches 95 percent of the country’s mobile networks.

Satellite Internet Trials and Future Connectivity
In addition to the 5G rollout, Cote d’Ivoire has authorized satellite internet provider Starlink to begin trial operations in July for a period of 12 months. This move aims to enhance internet access across the country.
The government is also focused on expanding GSM services to an additional 300 localities with more than 800 inhabitants, as part of the National Rural Connectivity Program. This program aims to ensure comprehensive coverage by 2030.
