Africazine:

ReconAfrica is set to conduct Namibia’s first-ever production test at the Kavango West 1X well, marking a significant milestone in the country’s oil exploration efforts.

The company plans to initiate downhole production testing before the end of May 2026. This program will focus on six optimized zones across 420 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing intervals, with operations supported by local and international partners.

Namibia’s Groundbreaking Oil Production Testing

ReconAfrica is collaborating with NAMCOR and BW Energy for this pioneering project. Equipment and services from both Namibian and international suppliers are already arriving on site, ensuring a robust operational setup.

The production testing program will begin with a cement bond log to verify casing and cement integrity. This step is crucial before moving forward with the actual production testing.

Key Operations and Timeline for Testing

The testing of a single zone is expected to take up to 10 days, while the entire program across all six zones could extend to 60 days. ReconAfrica anticipates that results from the production tests will be available around mid-to-late July 2026.

In addition to the production testing, ReconAfrica is preparing for further appraisal drilling on the Kavango discovery. Site selection and permitting processes are currently in progress.

Next Steps in Namibia’s Oil Exploration

  • Begin downhole production testing before the end of May 2026.
  • Conduct cement bond log to confirm casing and cement integrity.
  • Initiate perforating and production testing activities.
  • Expect production test results around mid-to-late July 2026.
  • Continue preparations for additional appraisal drilling.

Namibia is on the brink of a new era in oil production with this historic testing initiative.
