The Tamale 3rd Ring Road project is facing significant delays, raising concerns among local officials and residents.

Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, expressed disappointment during a recent site tour, noting that progress is slower than expected. Nearly four months into construction, he anticipated that work should be around 10 to 20% complete, but many areas are just beginning.

Concerns Over Slow Progress in Tamale

During the inspection, Suhuyini highlighted the unimpressive pace of the project, which spans four constituencies in the Tamale Metropolitan Area. He acknowledged the frustration of residents affected by the construction and urged them to remain patient, promising long-term benefits once the project is finished.

He also emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that contractors deliver quality work. The Deputy Minister’s remarks reflect a growing concern over the project’s timeline and its impact on the community.

Tackling Right-of-Way Challenges

James Oduro Amoo-Gottfried, Director of the Department of Urban Roads, joined the tour and pointed out that right-of-way challenges are significantly affecting the pace of construction. These issues have led to delays, with compensation discussions for affected individuals set to begin next week.

Despite the setbacks, Northern Regional Minister Ali Adolf John expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s commitment on-site, describing the quality of work completed thus far as satisfactory.

Next Steps for the Tamale Project

  • Compensation discussions for affected individuals to begin next week.
  • Continued monitoring of contractor performance by government officials.

The Tamale 3rd Ring Road project faces delays, but officials remain committed to its completion.
