Tunisia Secures €15.5 Million EU Research Funding Under Horizon Europe

Tunisia is making significant strides in research funding and collaboration with the European Union.

The country has secured €15.5 million in EU research funding under Horizon Europe following a joint committee meeting in Tunis. This meeting, held on 12 February 2026, marked the 4th EU-Tunisia Joint Research and Innovation Committee Meeting.

The recent meeting focused on enhancing Tunisia’s participation in EU research initiatives. Tunisian organisations and researchers have already signed 64 Horizon Europe grants, reflecting a growing engagement in European research projects. Tunisia ranks 12th among associated countries in terms of participation in Horizon Europe.

Additionally, Tunisia has 198 participations in PRIMA, an EU-backed research partnership aimed at addressing Mediterranean challenges, particularly in food systems and water management. This demonstrates Tunisia’s commitment to addressing regional issues through collaborative research.

Moreover, the meeting addressed the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, which focus on researcher training and mobility. Tunisia is reportedly improving in both the quality and quantity of its participation in these schemes, which is crucial for fostering innovation.
