China’s Ski Slopes Experience a Thrilling Surge of International Visitors

China’s Winter Sports Scene Thrives as International Visitors Arrive in Droves

As winter blankets the northern hemisphere, China is basking in a snow-filled spotlight as an emerging destination for winter sports enthusiasts. This surge in popularity is part of China’s ambitious plan to revitalize its ice and snow economy, and it appears to be paying off. Ski resorts across the country, particularly in Zhangjiakou’s Chongli District—home to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics—are seeing a delightful influx of visitors eager to conquer the slopes.

Adventure seekers from all corners of the globe have flocked to these picturesque resorts, marking a turning point for China’s winter tourism. “I discovered this incredible place through social media. My children are on break, and it’s their first experience with snow,” shared James, a spirited traveler from Singapore. His sentiment is echoed by many as families and adventure lovers plan trips to experience the thrill of winter sports in an exotic setting.

According to Ctrip, China’s leading online travel agency, the statistics speak volumes. From November to February next year, bookings for ski resorts and ice-and-snow attractions have skyrocketed by approximately 70% compared to the previous year. The trend is particularly notable in regions like Hebei, Xinjiang, and Inner Mongolia, where inbound travel orders have nearly doubled, showcasing growth rates exceeding 130%. Southeast Asian tourists represent a substantial portion of this rise, comprising nearly 70% of inbound visitors.

To further entice international travelers, local governments are rolling out simplified entry procedures and improved visa services. For instance, the entry-exit administration in Shenyang has launched a “quick extension” visa service, allowing foreign tourists to extend their stay by up to 30 days. Kenza, a traveler from Morocco, expressed excitement about this new initiative: “Initially, I planned a short visit, but this streamlined visa process made it easy for me to stay longer and truly immerse myself in winter fun!”

As China’s winter sports scene cultivates a vibrant culture for both locals and international visitors, the nation is creating memorable experiences that bridge cultures through the joy of winter sports. With breathtaking landscapes and an array of winter activities to offer, China is undoubtedly staking its claim as a premier destination for winter adventures.

So, if snow sports are on your bucket list, head to China this winter season for an unforgettable experience! From skiing to snowboarding and everything in between, the opportunities are endless.
