MUSCAT, NOV 30 – Adventure enthusiasts from around the globe recently gathered in Oman for the exciting ‘Oman Cliffs’ event, held in the picturesque Hadash village at Wadi Mistal, nestled within the stunning Wilayat of Nakhal in Al Batinah South Governorate. This year’s event drew an impressive lineup of 67 climbers hailing from 13 different nations, alongside representatives from several tourism companies in Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, highlighting Oman’s emerging reputation as a hub for adventure tourism.
Organized under the auspices of Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT), in collaboration with local adventure organizations like Wadi Adventures and Rahal Adventures, the Oman Cliffs event has become a major attraction for outdoor enthusiasts. This thrilling challenge invited participants to ascend the breathtaking 1,500-meter high mountain range, where climbers faced the exhilarating cold and rugged terrain, all while capturing the unique charm of Oman’s landscapes.
Climbers from diverse backgrounds—including fellow adventurers from Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, the UK, Austria, Scotland, and France—praised their experiences exploring what can only be described as one of the country’s hidden gems. Many of them, embarking on their first climbing adventure in Oman, expressed delight at the captivating geography and the natural beauty surrounding them.
The Hadash Guest House, the only accommodation in the Wakan mountain range, provided a cozy haven for climbers. Salim bin Mansoor al Hadhrami, the guest house manager, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “The positive response to the Cliff Classic is remarkable. Despite some logistical challenges, this annual gathering has become a must-see or must-participate event for both climbers and adventure tourists.”
Wakan and Hadash villages are nestled within the breathtaking Western Al Hajar Mountains and offer stunning views of the surrounding barren landscapes. Wakan village gained considerable attention four years ago when it was transformed into a winter wonderland following an unexpected snowstorm, showcasing its potential as an idyllic weekend retreat for both residents and visitors. This popularity is now shifting toward Hadash village, which is quickly establishing itself as the next hotspot on Oman’s tourism map.
With its rich natural scenery and adventurous spirit, Oman is positioning itself as a prime destination for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike. As interest in adventure tourism grows, events like the Oman Cliffs not only boost local economies but also strengthen Oman’s global reputation as a premier adventure tourism destination. Visitors and climbers alike are discovering why Oman, with its stunning mountains and welcoming communities, is the place to be for a thrilling adventure.
