In an exciting development for civil servants in Nigeria, over 8,000 public sector employees are gearing up for promotion exams starting on Tuesday, November 25th. This prestigious event, which runs through the 29th, will unfold at the National Open University Study Centre located along Kubwa Road in Abuja. The promotion exams are a significant milestone for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) as they aim to elevate the careers of dedicated government employees and improve the overall efficiency of public service.

Emeka Ezeh, the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, has revealed that candidates from an impressive 165 different cadres will participate in this year’s assessments. This diversity underscores the inclusive approach being adopted within the FCTA. Ezeh expressed gratitude for the approval from the FCT Minister to expedite the 2024 promotion exercise, affirming the administration’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of its workforce.

One of the most notable aspects of this year’s promotion examination is the shift to a modernized computer-based test (CBT) format. This progressive step demonstrates the FCTA’s dedication to integrating technology into public service operations, providing a streamlined and transparent assessment process. Ezeh mentioned that under the leadership of Barrister Nyesom Wike, the FCTA became the first in Nigeria to implement a computer-based format for promotion tests, a move that reflects a broader trend towards modernization in government services.

Additionally, he highlighted that in August 2025, the minister approved the elevation of 49 directors who successfully passed the CBT conducted by the commission, thereby recognizing and rewarding excellence within the civil service. This initiative not only fosters a culture of meritocracy but also encourages employees to strive for continuous improvement and professional development.

As these civil servants prepare for their examinations, one can’t help but feel a sense of optimism about the future of public service in Nigeria. This effort by the FCTA to invest in its personnel is an encouraging step towards a more efficient and effective governance framework that ultimately serves the needs of the Nigerian people.

Stay tuned for more updates as these civil servants embark on this vital journey of professional advancement!
