Howden Re strengthens its leadership in South Africa with a new appointment.
Hayley Schell has been named Managing Director of Howden Re for South Africa, effective 1 November 2026. Based in Johannesburg, she will report to Attilio Tornetta, Head of Treaty and Regional Retrocession for the Middle East and Africa.

Schell is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand and the Insurance Institute of South Africa. With over 34 years in the industry, she has a wealth of experience in brokerage, insurance, and reinsurance.
Her career includes senior roles at prominent firms such as Swiss Re, Aon, and Guy Carpenter, showcasing her expertise and leadership in the sector.
