South Africans can explore their national parks for free next week, promoting conservation and accessibility.
The 21st annual SA National Parks Week will take place from 7 to 10 September 2026. This initiative allows South African day visitors to enter participating parks without paying entrance fees, including popular spots like Kruger National Park and West Coast National Park.
Free Access to South Africa’s National Parks
During this week, South Africans can visit various national parks at no cost, fostering a connection with nature. The free-access period at Kruger National Park, West Coast National Park, and Augrabies Falls National Park extends until Friday, 11 September, excluding the weekend.
However, some locations, such as Namaqua National Park and the Boulders Penguin Colony, are not included in this initiative. Visitors must present a South African identity document for free entry, and children will need valid identification as well.
Encouraging Conservation Awareness
SA National Parks Week, introduced in 2006, aims to enhance public awareness of conservation and South Africa’s natural heritage. This campaign has become a significant annual initiative for SANParks, highlighting the importance of protecting the country’s natural spaces.
