Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has unveiled a new solar system for its campervans, enhancing off-grid capabilities.

The Grand California 600 and 680 models now feature longer-lasting LiFePO batteries and optional solar panels, offering up to 174W solar output. The upgrades also include improved driver assistance systems and interior enhancements, with prices starting at €833 for the 600 model and €2,326.45 for the 680 model.

Volkswagen’s Innovative Solar System for Campervans

The new off-grid solar system significantly boosts the functionality of the Grand California campervans. With peak outputs of 104W for the 600 model and 174W for the 680 model, the solar panels ensure reliable energy supply whether stationary or on the move. The LiFePO batteries provide a five times higher cycle life compared to traditional systems, enhancing the longevity and efficiency of the campervans.

In addition to the solar upgrades, the Grand California models feature advanced driver assistance systems, including intersection assist for urban maneuvering. The interior has been upgraded with Atami Bamboo décor, providing a modern and functional living space.

Pricing and Availability of Upgraded Models

The new packages are available for order in Europe, with the Crafter 600 model priced at €833 for the battery upgrade alone. If customers opt for the solar panel addition, the total cost rises to €1,719.55. The Grand California 680 model, with its comprehensive upgrades, is priced at €2,326.45.

While these models are not sold in South Africa, local modifiers can convert the available Crafter models into motorhomes, allowing South African adventurers to enjoy similar enhancements.
