The Finetown road project in Johannesburg is making significant strides toward improved infrastructure.

Initiated in the fourth quarter of the 2024 financial year, the project focuses on converting gravel roads to asphalt and enhancing stormwater management. Currently, construction is underway on Road D, Simmonds Street, and Wilson Street, covering approximately 1.07 kilometres.

Finetown Road Upgrade Project Progress

The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) reports that the project is in Phase 1, which includes about 431 metres of Road D and approximately 639 metres along Simmonds and Wilson streets. This phase involves extensive work such as road layer preparation, stormwater installation, and the creation of interlocking-paved sidewalks.

Through its Economic Empowerment Programme, the project has created opportunities for 11 small, medium, and micro enterprises, while also providing employment to nine local labourers. This initiative not only enhances infrastructure but also supports local economic growth.
