Rwandan peacekeepers are making a tangible difference in healthcare access for vulnerable communities.
In a recent initiative, Rwandan peacekeepers (RWANBATT-3), alongside RWANBATT-1 and the Society for Family Health (SFH), offered free medical services to 390 residents at Ruli Somba Primary Health Care Centre. This outreach focused on vulnerable groups, treating 241 women, 64 men, and 85 children for various health conditions.

The medical outreach included general consultations, dental care, and maternal healthcare support for pregnant women. It aimed to address common illnesses affecting the local population. Colonel Innocent Rwaka Muhirwe, Contingent Commander of RWANABATT-3, reiterated the battalion’s dedication to supporting local communities. While their primary mandate is civilian protection, the peacekeepers are actively identifying and addressing critical healthcare challenges.
The initiative was organized following the identification of healthcare needs during the security provision for a 152-kilometre road rehabilitation project connecting Ruli and Mundri. This proactive approach underscores the peacekeepers’ role in community engagement.
