South Africa Ranked as World’s Biggest Homebodies in Recent Study

South Africa has been crowned the world’s biggest homebody, revealing a surprising preference for staying in.

A recent study by Sharps, an English furniture company, scored South Africa 95 out of 100 in attachment to home. This score reflects South Africans’ emotional connection to their living spaces, their preference for staying in, and their ability to decline social invitations.

South Africa Tops Global Homebody Rankings

In a global study involving 3,005 participants from 15 countries, South Africa emerged as the leader in home attachment. The findings highlight that South Africans enjoy home-cooked meals and hosting friends and family, contributing to their high score. Despite the country’s vibrant culture, many prefer the comfort of their homes over social outings.

The study assessed various factors, including hours spent at home, frequency of hosting, and feelings of relief when plans are canceled. South Africa’s strong score is attributed to its unique braaing culture and favorable climate, which encourage people to stay in and enjoy their surroundings.

Comparative Insights from Other Countries

The USA follows closely, with 83% of respondents preferring to stay in rather than go out. Additionally, 25% of Americans expressed relief when plans fall through. Canada and Ireland share the third spot, indicating a global trend towards valuing home life.

This study sheds light on a growing preference for home-centered lifestyles, reflecting broader societal changes in how people view social interactions and personal space.

Future Trends in Home Living Preferences

  • Increased focus on home-centered activities.
  • Potential rise in home improvement and decoration markets.
  • Continued exploration of cultural factors influencing home preferences.

South Africa’s love for home life is a testament to its rich culture and values.
