Morocco’s inflation rate is on the rise, driven by soaring energy prices.

In March 2026, Morocco’s annual inflation rate increased by 0.9% year-on-year, largely due to a 10.7% surge in energy prices. Food prices also contributed, rising by 0.6%, while non-food items saw a 1.1% increase.

Energy Prices Drive Inflation in Morocco

The High Commission for Planning reported significant inflationary pressures in Morocco, particularly from energy costs. The 10.7% rise in energy prices was the most substantial among all categories. This surge has been a key factor in the overall inflation increase.

Food prices also played a role, with a 0.6% rise year-on-year. Monthly data showed a 1.2% increase in March compared to February, driven by a 1.9% hike in food product prices. Specific food items, such as vegetables, fruits, and meats, experienced notable price increases.

Regional Variations in Inflation Rates

Inflation rates varied significantly across different regions in Morocco. Guelmim and Al Hoceima recorded the highest increases at 2.7%, followed by Errachidia at 1.8% and Agadir at 1.6%. Other regions, including Safi and Tangier, also reported varying inflationary pressures.

These regional differences highlight the uneven impact of inflation across the country, reflecting local economic conditions and price fluctuations.
