Africazine:

A large crowd of EFF supporters gathered outside the Constitutional Court in Johannesburg, demanding the release of the Phala Phala judgment.

The judgment relates to the EFF’s challenge against the National Assembly’s decision not to hold an impeachment inquiry into President Ramaphosa. This follows allegations of serious misconduct linked to a burglary at his game farm in 2020, where significant amounts of money were reportedly hidden.

EFF Demands Accountability at Constitutional Court

Supporters filled Constitution Hill, expressing frustration and political conviction through songs and placards. EFF Gauteng communications officer Dumisani Baleni emphasized the party’s commitment to pressuring the court for the judgment, which has been pending for over a year and five months. He labeled the delay a “miscarriage of justice” and raised concerns about the lack of communication from the court.

Among the demonstrators, Steven Malatjie voiced the public’s need for clarity regarding the undisclosed money linked to the scandal. He highlighted the seriousness of the allegations and the public’s right to know the truth, connecting the issue to broader frustrations over service delivery.

Public Frustration Over Delayed Judgment

Supporters like Aaron Komane stressed the importance of equal application of the law, questioning why the president appears to evade accountability. He noted that ordinary citizens would face immediate consequences for similar actions. The sentiment among the crowd reflects a growing demand for transparency and accountability in governance.

Terence Langa, representing the youth, underscored the need for impartiality in the legal system. He argued that the law should not favor the powerful over the vulnerable, reinforcing the call for justice in the Phala Phala case.
