TotalEnergies Resumes Oil Production at Libya’s Mabrouk Field After Shutdown

TotalEnergies has resumed oil production at Libya’s Mabrouk field after nearly ten years of inactivity.

The French company restarted operations at the onshore field, which is located about 130 kilometers south of Sirte. The new production facility has a capacity of 25,000 barrels per day and officially entered service on February 28, 2026, following construction that began in May 2024.

The Mabrouk field had been shut down since 2015, marking a significant return for TotalEnergies in Libya. The company holds a 37.5% stake in the field, which is part of concession C17. This restart is part of TotalEnergies’ broader strategy to enhance its output in North Africa.

Julien Pouget, TotalEnergies’ director for exploration and production activities in the Middle East and North Africa, emphasized the company’s long-term commitment to Libya. This year, TotalEnergies celebrates 70 years of operations in the country, underscoring its historical presence and investment in the region.
