The Kombat Mine in Namibia is set for a significant revival following a major investment from Horizon Corporation.
After being under Care & Maintenance due to flooding, the mine’s rehabilitation began on February 6, led by New Horizon Copper (Pty) Ltd. The project aims to restart mining operations by the end of this year, with plans to double the ore throughput to 60,000 tonnes per month.
Horizon Corporation Invests in Kombat Mine Revival
The Kombat Mine has been dormant since early last year when it flooded. Horizon Corporation, through its Namibian entity New Horizon Copper, is investing over US million to rehabilitate the site. The investment includes US.5 million already utilized during the mine’s temporary closure.
The rehabilitation was marked by an on-site ceremony attended by local government officials and community representatives. New Horizon Copper’s leadership expressed confidence in the new operational approach to stabilize the mine, particularly around the Asis West shaft.
Projected Mining Operations and Community Involvement
New Horizon Copper aims to ramp up production in phases, ultimately achieving an ore throughput level of 60,000 tonnes per month. This figure is double the previous output of the Kombat Mine. The local community’s interests are represented through Epangelo Mining’s 10% shareholding, highlighting the collaborative effort in this revival.
Former majority owner Knowledge Katti emphasized the importance of investor confidence and community support in reaching this milestone. The project reflects a belief in Namibia as a viable investment opportunity.
Next Steps for Kombat Mine Rehabilitation

- Restart of mining operations by the end of this year.
- Phased ramp-up of production to reach 60,000 tonnes per month.
