Ho Chi Minh City is set to receive over USD 10 billion in remittances in 2025, showcasing a robust inflow despite global challenges.

According to the State Bank of Vietnam’s Region 2 branch, remittance inflows through credit institutions and economic organizations rose by more than 8 percent from 2024. Of this total, over USD 7.4 billion, or nearly 72 percent, was transferred via economic organizations, with the remainder handled through banks.

Ho Chi Minh City’s Remittance Surge in 2025

Asia and the Americas are the largest source regions for remittances, contributing over 80 percent of the total. Asia alone accounted for nearly USD 5.06 billion, approximately 49 percent of the remittances, primarily from countries like Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, where many Vietnamese work long-term.

The Americas followed closely, with remittances exceeding USD 3.3 billion, or nearly 32 percent, reflecting a significant increase of almost 128 percent from 2024. This surge indicates a recovery in income among Vietnamese communities in the US and Canada.

Vietnam’s Growing Remittance Landscape

Remittances from Europe reached more than USD 921 million, accounting for nearly 9 percent, marking a 16 percent year-on-year increase. This growth signals improving economic conditions for Vietnamese workers in the EU, especially in skilled labor and small businesses.

Oceania contributed over USD 890 million, or 8.6 percent of total remittances, an increase of 15 percent compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, Africa accounted for just 1.7 percent of total inflows, equivalent to USD 173 million, but saw a remarkable growth of over 39 percent year on year.

Future Outlook for Remittance Growth

  • Continued monitoring of remittance trends in 2025.
  • Potential for further growth in African remittances.
  • Increased focus on economic organizations facilitating transfers.

Ho Chi Minh City’s remittance inflows highlight the city’s resilience and economic connections worldwide.
